Day 3: Fez City Tour With A Local Guide

After breakfast, your driver and Fez native guide will meet you at your hotel to begin your city tour, which is typically broken into two parts:

By Car:

  • Learn about the Royal Palace’s beautiful design, which includes seven golden gates. Then, take a stroll through the Mellah, or Jewish quarter, which was constructed near the Palace to provide protection.
  • Take in the cityscape from the Southern Tower, a historic fortification and one of the lookouts on a hill that allows you to see the whole layout of Fez, allowing you to identify areas that would otherwise be obscured by skyline-obscuring constructions.
  • Visit a pottery area to see how the distinctive Fez pottery is manufactured, as well as the stunning mosaics that awe the whole country.

On Foot:

  • Visiting the historic Medina is similar to visiting a living museum. The Fez Medina is a tiny neighborhood where people live, work, and go about their everyday lives, so stay active and out for donkeys!
  • We’ll stop at Fez’s historic alleyways to see the famed Al-Quaraouiyine University, a beautiful tribute to the city’s rich academic history. This one-of-a-kind institution, founded in 859 CE, enjoys the enviable distinction of being the world’s oldest degree-granting university that is still in existence today. It’s even more impressive since it was created by a visionary woman, converting it into a symbol of feminine power and wisdom.
  • See why Fez is recognized as Morocco’s crafts capital by visiting handicraft workshops. This includes the silk weavers, who weave gorgeously colorful garments from agave plant silk threads, and the famed Fez tannery, where they prepare all sorts of animal hides by hand, as they have for almost 1000 years, and offer leather products in every hue and style…
